Reserving a hotel room?
If you reserve a hotel room with your credit card does that obligate u stay stay there? What happens if u change your mind?
|
It depends on the rules of the hotel and/or the website you use and the rate you chose. Some rates require prepayment and don't allow changes, but most of the time it's easy to make a reservation that's cancelable 24 hrs. in advance of the stay. You're most likely to get something cancelable by booking directly with the hotel, but there are some websites that offer the same. Small inns and b & b's can be stricter about cancelations.

Most of the hotels I've reserved say that you can cancel up to 6PM day of
Check In...but I always ask & write it down, along with their name. |
I've also encountered places that require a cancelation at least 48 hours before your arrival. While 6 pm is the usual deadline, some also have pushed that up to 4 pm. Policies can also vary during peak periods like large events and holiday weekends. If you're not clear on the policy, always ask.

I like to book on line using my credit card, noting the deadline for cancellation.
I print out my reservation and, if I cancel, I print out the cancellation. I've never had a problem. |
Hi flep, if you reserve by phone ask the cancellation policy of the hotel and write it down along with your confiramtion number. If you cancel write down the date, time and confirmtion number..make sure you know the cancellation policy of any hotel you reserve with regardless of what method you use to reserve.

Cancel within 24 hours if not sooner. And you'll be fine.

Be sure to ask when you reserve - I'll be staying at the Staybridge Suites hotel in Florida in July and they have a 72 hour cancellation.
