Reservation in NP
 
Hi,
We're palanning a backcountry trip to the NPs in the west on Augest and September, do we need call reservation to just Augest? or September too?, and the problem is that we dont know exaclly the correct dates that we'll get to every park, ( we dont want to be on presure, we want to take it easy ).?

LoriBa,

I think most national parks require a backcountry permit to camp overnight.

I also think each park has it's own rules and regulations. You would be better off searching the offical national park web pages for this information.

Yellowstone alone has over 100 back country campsites. I'd bet you wouldn't have any trouble getting a site at the last minute.

In Yellowstone, the back country office is at Grant Village.

Are you talking about real backpacking, or just camping? In some parks, backcountry permits aren't issued until the day before the planned trip. September will be much less crowded almost anywhere than August will be. You may want to spend time at less-visited parks in August, then go to the more popular parks in September. If you need a place to camp when a campground is full, you can usually camp in a National Forest (not National Park!) for no charge if you stay 1/4-1/2 mile off the paved road.
