Requesting specific rooms in a hotel
Forgive me for I am about to sin...
I have posted this question on the Canada site with no response...thus far. I am sure many on this site have been to the Banff Springs Hotel. I have read that the rooms are varied in their size, appointments and view, so I am hoping to get a recommendation about what location in the hotel to request a room. Also, are the suites worth the price?
Thanks,
A.M.
AM: I've almost booked a trip to the BSH 3 times. The hotel is not known for great rooms (if you consider great as world class). They're older and not luxurious as in newer US hotels.
And, as you said, quite variable.
This always frustrates me.

This is what I'd do: call the concierge and ask for the inside scoop. Tell them it's a special occasion and you want everything to be just perfect. Good concierges will provide honest, useful info.

I was at the Banff Springs Hotel 2 summers ago as part of a Tauck tour. As a single traveller, with Tauck, I am never discriminated against and given the broom closet. This time I was given a huge corner room with a tremendous sitting area and a bathrooom large enough for 4 adults. Gorgeous mountain view. The only problem was that the room was a bit of a walk once I got off the elevator. After 3 days there, I finally knew my way around....it was time to head up to Lake Louise. Talk about a room with a view up there.

Loved this trip. God's territory. Plus it is nice and cool in August when the rest of the east coast is suffocating.

Thank you for the replies. Anyone else suggest an area in this hotel I should request?
A.M.

I'm not trying to be rude, but the easiest way would be to ask and pay for a suite with a view.

When I tried to book there several years ago, trying months ahead, the reservations clerk was very honest with me. She told me that the bulk of hotel guests are part of tours and that all the best rooms are reserved for their regular booking tour companies. She only suggested that we could try at the last minute in case some of those pre-blocked rooms became available. A few very expensive suites were available to the public however. We chose not to stay there. But I have never known such honesty about how it works in these big tour type hotels.
