Report on drive from ny to boston
First of all, thanks to everyone who offered advice in response to my post.
We left Northern Westchester on the Friday of Memorial Day week-end around 6pm headed for Boston. We took 84E to 90E. Arrived around 9:30 pm after only some spotty traffic due mostly to rain and other drivers mishaps. We made one potty stop. On the way home, we took the same route, in reverse. Left Boston at 2pm, made one gas station stop, arrived home just past 5pm - no traffic at all. We enjoyed Boston immensely although we did not do half of what I planned. We went to the zoo, which, if you've been to the Bronx Zoo, or any other "major" zoo, was nothing to speak of. But with 2 kids and a sunny day, it was very nice. To the aquarium - nice although very crowded, to the Laser light shows at the planetarium (museum of science), Quincy Market and Tanueil Hall and on the duck tour. To get tickets for the duck tour, we had to show up in line (at 7:45am) the day we wanted to take the tour. We bought tickets for the 12:30pm tour. This was kind of strange to me - the way the tickets are not sold ahead of time, but it worked. Unfortunately, they were draining the Charles River (?) and this prevented our duck from making it through the waterway so we had to turn back and do a land only tour. Still interesting and we got a full refund. We stayed at the Back Bay Hilton. Parked there the entire time and took subways and taxis. I hope to go back soon and see Boston Commons, walk the Freedom Trail, visit some museums and walk around Cambridge. to anyone who is headed that way - Have Fun. Boston is a great city and the people there were terrific. |
Hi--not that it matters for you, now that your trip is over, but when I looked at the Duck tour website a few months ago, advance tickets were available online....Has that changed??
|
Hi socialworker! We just ordered our tickets online about 3 weeks ago. Just bring your printout along. It's really a fun experience.
|
The Duck Tour only sells a certain percentage of tickets in advance of the actual day.

That makes sense, Howard. That way there will always be some available for both those who plan way ahead, and those whose plans are more last minute. It would be a shame if there were none available for "walk-ins".
