Renting a Cottage on a Lake

Hi,

I'm taking my father on a windjammer cruise for his birthday out of Rockland for several days in August, and after we get back, we'd like to rent a cottage. Ideally, it would be big enough for our family from Boston to visit, and on a lake. We don't like really touristy places, and are more interested in down-home things, like searching out the best blueberry stands, diners and the like.

We can go anywhere in Maine, but I'm wondering if we should aim for a lake around Camden or Rockland or go farther afield to Deer Isle?

Thanks for your help!

Try adding "Maine" to your request!

Is Moosehead Lake too far? OMG it is so pretty up there. Here is the VRBO rental site:

any reason why you want a lake and not the ocean? there are some gorgeous Ocean side rentals in the area around Boothbay (mid-coast and Islands). Check out VRBO.Deer Isle also, I think it would be harder to find lakefront than Ocean front.

Moosehead lake is not too far. Well I guess it would mater where on Moosehead you are thinking about. There is Damrascotta (sp?) lake that is closer to Camden, Rockland and the ocean. A lot of people like it there.

Thanks for your responses! We were angling for a lakefront cottage since we all love to swim, and it seems like even in August, an oceanside cottage would be way too cold.

The Sebago Lake area in Raymond/Naples/Bridgton is beautiful as well.
