renting a car in Vegas

I'm going to Las Vegas next week, and I want to rent a car and go to Red Rock Canyon for a day. Should I make the car rental arrangements in advance? I'd rather be flexible and go on the spur of the moment, and it looks like there are an awful lot of places out there to choose from. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Usually the best deals are available to those making advance reservations. The companies figure if you stumble in without one that they've kind of got you over a barrell. This is not always true if they have car surpluses or at small agencies, but is typically true of the majors.

ALWAYS reserve a car in advance, you will always get a better deal. Check car rental web sites and/or Sunday Paper travel sections forspecialdeals. The good think about car rental reservations is that you don't need to give a Credit card in advance to make a reservation, so you can canel at the very, very, last min, or just not show up(not the nicest thing to do,though)though).

Thank you very much, Jack and Anthony! I just made a reservation with National, for a reasonable rate.
