Renting a car in Tuscany for 3 days- cost (also suggested accommodations)

My 22 year old son and I will ride the train during our 3 weeks Europe visit. During our Tuscany days it was suggested that we rent a car for 3 days to visit the villages more freely. Can anyone tell me approximately what it would cost per day for a simple stick shift vehicle? Also, any suggestions on where to stay?

You need to move this to the European forum, specifically Italy.

This question does not belong in the US. It matters only where you are going - NOT where you are from. Many of your answers on the europe board are from americans.
