renting a car in Maui?

My husband and I are taking our first trip to Maui in March. We've heard there's a lot to do that you need a car for, so we are wondering if we should rent a car for the whole trip? (7 days).

Our only concern is that our hotel charges $13 a day for parking, and we aren't sure it's worth it if we don't use the car enough.

Can anyone provide a recommendation? Thanks!

Where is your hotel? In a lot of areas, you'll have to drive just to go out to dinner.

Your hotel's location, and what you want to do, will make a difference. But we had a car for the entire week we were there and thought it was well worth it - we were in the Wailea area. Enabled us to do some things on the spur of the moment and we did use it everyday (although I don't recall what if anything our hotel charged for parking).

I would rent it to the entire trip, make a bid on priceline so you can safe some money and use that towards your parking fee personally I think $13.00 it's not bad, we had to pay $20.00. I can't think of not having a car there, unless you want to totally relax and not leave your resort. Hope this helps, Gina

You're going to want the car for the whole trip - it's much easier (and likely cheaper) to just get the car at the airport and drop it off when you fly out.

We had a Jeep for our entire trip and used it every day. I'd just get it for the whole trip unless you're planning on spending most of your time on the hotel property.
