Renting a car in Las Vegas
Hello was wondering if it is worth it to rent a car in Las Vegas. We would be traveling the dates of Feb.18-22. We are going to be staying at the Golden Nugget. Last time we stayed at the MGM and went to Lake Mead and rented a car but really did not use it that much. Since we are staying at the Golden Nugget. We thought it might be worth renting a car. Any advice. Thanks,Kathy

I always rent a car in LV, even when staying mid-strip.
It's cheap (less so in recent years though), and we always go downtown once, like to have the freedom to skip from one part of the strip to another without taking a cab or wasting huge amounts of time on trams, etc.
To get a thorough list of rates for your dates, try the car rental section at Travelocity. It's very complete.
Then check the websites of a couple favorites. Rates vary quite a bit and change with time.

Yes, you shold rent a car. cab fares are really not that cheap, and you'll pay over $10 (before tips)to get from downtown to midstrip. 3 cabrides and you have paid for a day's car rental. Additionally, the car allows you the freedom to visit Valley Ranch, Lake Las Vegas, The outlet mall, etc.

if you are only going from downtown to the strip...i wouldn't. i hate driving in vegas. take the public transport back or forth or if it's late at night, splurge on a taxi

I'm with the above poster. Unless you have a definite out-of-the-city destination in mind (and in that case I'd just rent the car for the one day) it's so much easier to just hop on the bus, or hail a cab (our rates for just hopping up and down the strip never exceeded $10.00 including tip); by the time I walk the parking garage and retrieve the car and find the way out and maneuver the traffic - I can already be at my destination w/a bus or cab. So much easier.
