Rented an R.V. in Chicago, for 10 days. Where should we go?
My family, 4 adults and 2 kids aged 6 and 13, has rented an R.V. for this June/July . We have it for 10 days. We are picking it up in Chicago. Any ideas where we should go?

As a resident of the Southeast, I was unfamiliar with the glorious scenery all around Lake Michigan until a trip there a couple of years ago. My suggestion is just to meander all along the shoreline, going through Wisconsin (including Door County) and then to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (including the Lake Superior sights) and on to Mackinac Island, then over to Traverse City and south along the lake shore back toward Chicago. The Michigan tourism department (and Wisconsin's) has lots of information and suggestions to offer.

Why did you choose Chicago when you don't have a plan? We've done Michigan along the lake you almost never see the lake; the upper peninsula--just new growth forest that isn't pretty and you hardly ever see the lakes there either as you are driving/ northern Wisconsin--it was scenic in Bayfield but that was about it. We've gone back to lots of areas of the U.S. over and over but nothing about that area makes me want to go back.
I wouldn't recommend the area if you could choose where you are going. I'd think about Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California. the northeast---I could go on and on but I wouldn't choose the area you are thinking of. Sorry.

Not to discourage you from this excursion, but there are several large road long-term reconstruction projects around Chicago this year (which have already started).
I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck in the middle of them driving an R.V.

You don't have to be thick-skinned top post here, though it helps. I don't mean to sound snarky, but you referenced picking up the RV in Chicago, so it appears that you are coming from somewhere else. Most people renting and doing the RV thing do so out west, so it would seem to most of us that renting in Chicago doesn't make sense. That you live there makes more sense, maybe you should have stated that in the OP. Another thing, maybe give some ideas as to where you might like to go.
