Rentals in Hawaii
 

We are working on planning a 50th Birthday for my husband and are thinking about taking him to Hawaii. The problem is that we have two teenagers (18,19), and therefore need a place with more than two queen beds. We have rented on VRBO.com before, but were wondering if anyone has any suggestions for rentals in Hawaii (2-3 bedroom). We don't have much of a budget, although we would like to keep the trip under $8,000. My daughter has been to Oahu, but the rest of us have never been to Hawaii before, and have no clue where to go. My son and husband love to golf wherever they go, although it is not neccessary. We are really just looking for a place to relax, and spend some quality time together in a warm place. We're just thinking that renting a house/condo may be the way to go.

Thought I'd copy what I said on the other thread to this one for consistency:

"There is really a lot to do and beautiful beaches and scenery on O'ahu. Waikiki is great fun and your family would probably enjoy it. Easy to take surfing lessons there, for example, beautiful beach, as well as tons of restaurants and shopping. I've never stayed in a condo in Waikiki so I can't recommend any there. To get out and see the rest of the island you could get a house in Kailua or on the North Shore. We spent a week this summer in VRBO #77614, 3 bed/ 2 bath, and it was great. that house is not beachfront, but only a short walk to beach access.

Don't know how soon you are going, but VRBO has many many rentals all over the state.

I've been to each of the islands and for a family vacation prefer Maui. There are many affordable 2 bedroom condos that are on, or a short walk from, good beaches.
If your kids are like mine, they will spend most of their time in the water. My favorite area is South Kihei. The Kamaole beaches all have lifeguards, and are great for boogie boarding and swimming. It is also nice to have a washer and dryer, and a kitchen for pop, cereal, and munchies...and the occasional meal if you get tired of eating out.
We had a group of 10, including 3 teenagers, on Maui last May. Rented 3 condos in the same complex.

I am in the process of looking for rentals also, and have just found wonderful places on or near the beach in Kailua on the windward side of the island. We lived in Kailua years ago; the most beautiful beaches on the island (and world) are here. Google vacation rentals in Kailua and you will find many choices.
