Rental Car in New York - Continental Cars
I am planning a trip to New York in July and would like to rent a continental car (for example BMW, Volvo or Saab). However, most of the American firms are only renting US cars. Are there any car rental companies which rent continental cars?

Alex,
I don't know how much you are willing to spend on a "continental" car, but they will be VERY expensive, upwards of $150-200 a day. In addition to Hertz, there are a number of "specialty/exotic" car rental places that carry BMW, Mercedes, Porsche. There is one in greenwich village. If you will be in NY City, as opposed to NY state, in the summer months, it may be difficult to get some models - esp. convertibles, as many Manhattanites will be renting them to travel out to Long Island and the Jersey Shore. Also consider contacting Manhattan/Queens BMW, SAAB, Volvo, etc. dealers. Some dealers also rent cars.
If I may be so bold as to ask, why do you specifically want a "continental" care (by that, I am assuming you mean a European auto manufacturer)? If you can give us an idea why you want this type of car maybe we can steer you towards an american car which may meet your needs.

Guys thanks for your help. The reason for my request is that I have been looking at renting a US car but the models that they carry at the large rental firms are not very exciting. I am looking to rent a convertible or a SUV to drive from NY to Cape Cod.

Have you considered a Mustang Convertible? It's the classic american car. You just need to check which rental companies use Fords and reserve one - I'd tell you which company to rent from, but I always get it screwed up. I ended up in Hawaii with a Chrysler Sebring when I thought we were getting a Mustang. I actually liked the Sebring better than the Mustang because it had more trunk space (not a "fun" reason to like a car).
Also consider renting a Jeep - a Jeep that looks like a Military Jeep, not the Jeep Cherokee SUVs. They can also be quite fun (not too terribly comfortable, but a fun ride). Most major rental companies will carry a few.
