Rental Car Advance
We are going to Maui and Big Island over the Xmas holidays (12/21 - 12/30). In our excitment of getting airfare and hotel booked, we missed a TINY detail - rental car. I have been checking for the last couple of days on the internet (expedia, travelocity, etc) as well as the major rental car company websites, and have had no luck in finding anything available. I'd appreciate any advice/tips on local rental car company options, and any tour package info if we cannot get a car.

I would call the rental companies on the phone yesterday and not just rely on the web sites. Good luck. Time is running out.

Try Alamo website.. last week I booked compact for 12/6-13, 2003. Use code QV or 6T for the best rate.. click on total price.. for all taxes to show up.. Then I called the phone# listed on the website and made reservation. They gave me confirmation # over the phone. I checked my reservation today on website with my confirmation and printed of my copy. Good Luck.. There are some local Maui car rental places also.

You might want to check with your hotel. Some hotels have rental car counters at the hotel, and the concierge may be able to help you out with local places as well.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago, I truly cannot believe that I did this but in all the excitement I totally forgot to rent a car and then it was too late (almost). I finally called around and budget had a car. When we got there however there were lots of options to upgrade and most of the companies had cars avaliable. Don't just go and hope there will be a care avaliable though, definetly phone around. Good luck, Aloha

phone 1-888-292-3307. we are going to big island over the Xmas too. I can't find any car from internet. I used above link. They reserved a car for us with Thrifty. Good luck. |
I realize you don't have a whole lot of choice at this point, but if you can possibly avoid using Alamo on the Big Island, I would definitely do so. If you can't avoid them, check with your insurance company at home before you leave about what they already cover; Alamo staff will try to sell you very expensive - and completely unnecessary - extra insurance, suggesting that the requirements are different in Hawaii. They're not.
