Rental boat insurance
i am looking to rent a boat this summer and would like to know if anyone knows how to insure a rental boat with collision coverage..thank you
|
Whomever owns the boat will have it insured.
If you want to talk to your insurance company about a rider, I'm sure it is possible. It also depends upon where you rent and your boating experience and credentials. |
You really should get a rider if you plan on renting a boat. I have a friend who works around boat rentals, and people regularly damage the prop doing idotic things. One prop = $2500+repair job you pay for. And that's just the start. Stoopid people ruin engines, damage the fiberglass hull, sink the boat in 6 feet of water. $$$$$$$$$$
I've come to the conclusion that only stoopid people even rent boats. |
We stoopid people rent boats because it is easier and cheaper for us to do that in the keys than it is for us to haul our boat from South Carolina to Florida.
All hail the stoopid people. |
actually the keys are where we are heading and looking to rent the boat...marathon to be exact...
i already looked into TRAVEL GUARD travel insurance to no avail...they will insure me to jump out of a plane or other extreme things but wount cover the boat...???hmmm..thanks tho....stooopid people rock !!! |
I'm not stoopid, I charter boats....

Hi GoTravel!
Doesn’t seem like you got any concrete suggestions yet. Have you tried looking online to see if you can get coverage that way? I get all my insurance online, and I recommend it except for the caveat that you still have to do your homework on the carriers and make sure you end up with someone reputable so you know that if you have a claim, it will get paid. There’s no use getting cheap insurance if they won’t pay out when you need them to. Anyway, for boat insurance you might want to try QuoteLocal.com. That way you cut out the insurance broker and save some money, plus you don’t have to take the time to visit their offices where they will undoubtedly try to upsell/cross-sell you. Please let us know what carrier you ended up with, how they measured up price-wise, and whether you had any problems if you had to file a claim. P.S. Stoopid people rock! |
I'd suggest reading the article about renting a boat on http://www.boatinsurance.org - lots of other good info on there if people are looking as well :)
