Rent Broadway run extended
For those going to NYC the musical Rent will not close in June as scheduled. Due to very high ticket sales the run has been extended through early September. Look for new discounts on Broadwaybox.com if interested in seeing it.

I wonder how upset all the people are who bought scalper tickets for the supposed sold out last night at upwards of $1000 each?
|
Why on earth would anyone pay that amount for a ticket to a show that's been running for more than 10 years?
I've never been to a closing night performance but I imagine it would be a bit depressing -- unless something special goes on that I'm unaware of. |
I guess it's kind of like a "cult" thing. People who have seen it like a million times, just HAVE to see it closing night.
We saw Ragtime on a Sunday night years ago. There was something electrifying that I couldn't quite put my finger on. The audience was absolutely going wild. It wasn't until curtain call that I found out three of the main stars were leaving the show that night. Believe me, it made a difference in the show -- having an audience so enthusiastic and several leads giving it an extra boost for their final performance. As an actor myself, I know that the final night of a successful run can be a performance to remember. But, I'm with you. I still don't get paying $1000 for the final night of a show like Rent -- especially without the original cast, etc. |
Apparently they are making special offers to those who bought tickets for the first closing night - to change them to the final closing night. But- that's if bought from the theater directly - if you bought them from a scalper there's not much you can do.
|
Exactly, NewYorkTraveler, and the theatre didn't sell any seats for $1000. I was following this episode originally on Craigslist and you should have seen what the scalpers were asking -- and getting -- for those tickets. As usual, buyer beware if you are buying from an unauthorized ticket seller.

I'd consider paying it if Idina Menzel reprised the role of Maureen.
I'd pay it if she went back on stage (in the US) as Elphaba. I'm so jealous of anyone who saw Kristen and Idina on stage together :-( |
ohhhh, starrs, it's so nice to know you're jealous of me! Yes, it was memorable -- especially since the beds got stuck our night, and Idina and Kristen improvised funny dialogue and pantomime while the beds slowly rolled in, stopped half way, then continued, then later started offstage before they finished their song. They got a lot of mileage out of it, and we were all on the floor laughing.

I am soooo very jealous. To see them together - amazing. To see them improvise like that - priceless! :-)
