Rent a wreck rentals

I posted earlier on this topic, but found out I'm unable to reach this company by internet or by phone. Has anyone used them before and how relaible are the vehicles?

I have never heard of them but in saying that, it you are unable to reach them by phone or the internet I would personally would not want to do business with them.

I rented a car from them in LA many, many years ago, and had a fine experience. But I was on a student budget and had no choice. I recall the car was pretty old, but ran fine. Last year when it flooded in Houston and my mother-in-law's car was flooded, she rented a car from Rent a Wreck and didn't have any trouble either.

WHERE are you trying to rent? Every Rent-a-Wreck I'm familiar w/ has a local phone number. So in what city are you trying to reach them?

Are they still in business? I haven't heard about them in 10 plus years.

Huhhh? Rent a Wreck has a web site:

They are not as numerous as Avis or Hertz or Enterprise, but they are out there.

I rented from the Kalispell, MT, agency and got a good deal for the time and area. I had a relatively new car that ran fine.

A friend of mine used R-a-W when she crashed her car (that's all her insurance would cover) and believe me it was a wreck. About 7 years old - but looked and acted more. Never wanted to start. she traded for another after a couple of days - but it wasn;t any better. Not something I would do voluntarily.

Elderly Step-dad just rented from them... awful car, broke down 2nd day and he was stranded for more than 3 hours, than goodness he had a cell phone! The 2nd car was not much better. I was really upset when I found out that he rented from them at 22.00 a day!
I could have rented him a decent car from a local Enterprise, Hertz or Avis for that amount!

I think the risk you run is that each Wreck agency is an independent franchise.

The parent outfit does not exert much effort at quality control. I sure as heck would not rent a car sight unseen from them. The one time I rented from them, I was told in advance what I was getting.

Now that you have jogged my memory, I recall the incident a little better.
We had flown into Kalispell Montana and I rented from Wreck because Avis and Hertz were outlandish.

The first Wreck car we got developed engine trouble before we got out of town. When I took my foot off the gas the engine died. We took it back and got a better car.

I have not rented from Wreck since then.

I usually stick with Avis or Hertz in the USA and AutoEurope, Avis or Hertz in Europe.
