Rent a house this summer in Maine?
Our family of five - kids 16, 12 and 10, - is considering renting a house for a week in Maine this summer. We really want some VERY special right at the water, of course..... with lots of options of things to explore all around! Any suggestions? Thanks

After staying near Blue Hill and Tunk Lake, we've come to prefer the Trenton area. We've rented two houses on the ocean and enjoyed both. The location allows us to make use of the park but also run into Ellsworth for groceries, see a movie at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor, get a lobster at Tidal Falls, or go back and forth to Brooklin in a day.

We've been renting in York Beach for many years. Long Beach would be a great area for your kids. Waves are minimal most of the time (we usually go in July and August). Tons of places to rent and most very reasonalbe. My favorite is the Nubble area. York is a short drive to Ongunquit, Kennebunkport and Portland.
Plenty of rentals on line! good luck! |
Take a look at Lake Kezar in Center Lovell, Maine. It is a beautiful quiet lake that has a back drop of the white mountains. I run a resort on the lake but there are houses for rent all around. You can rent boats from the marina and there are beautiful hikes all around. You would be a bout 40 min. from North Conway NH. Try New Suncook Realty or Duttan Realty they handle a good deal of the local rentals. If you want to look at us we are at Qresort.com Good luck with your search

'On the water' can mean many things in Maine. Just because a house is on the water doesn't mean there is a swimmable beach there. Many houses are on rocky coves, with ice cold water. If you want a house on a sandy beach, your best bet is somewhere between York and Kennebunk.
North of that, the sandy beaches are fewer, smaller and colder(still very beautiful however). |
