Renovated Paradise Point Resort

Hello, has anyone stayed in the renovated Paradise Point resort? I was thinking of booking there in June for me and my 12 and 15 year old. Any suggestions?

Do you mean in San Diego?
Karen Mar 19th, 2002 12:38 PM

Instead of waiting for you to reply, I am going to assume you mean San Diego since noticing your email address.

My husband and I stayed there last December while he attended a conference there.

The place was gorgeous!

A bunch of single story buildings, 2 rooms to a building, are spread over many acres on the peoperty. The landscaping is beautiful -- and I saw this because I am hard to impress. :-)

The rooms are very "Key Westy" or better to say a "british carribean" decor if you have never been to Key West, Florida. The same company owns Paradise Point Resport & Spa and Ocean Key House in Key West, and they are decorated exactly alike.

The main pool area (there are at least 3 pools) is great. A zero whatever pool entry, great pool service. I was up to walk/run before sunrise and the steam off of the pool was incredible. Staff is already moving about at that time, getting ready for the day.

Housekeeping was fantastic. Anything you want or need - just ask.

If I didn't dislike San Diego so much, I would want to go back to Paradise Point just to relax there again.

PS - They have a really nice spa, too.

I hope this helps. Anymore questions, please ask.

Have a nice trip!!
Oooops, I forgot to mention Paradise Point Resort in San Diego, CA. Sorry. Thanks for the input Karen. I have been looking for hotels for months now,in San Diego, LA, and San Francisco. I have finally narrowed the San Diego hotel down anyway. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to some more replies....
Melissa

Melissa, I had the opposite experience from Karen. It's amazing to me that we stayed at the same place! I was there longer ago though, when the rooms had been renovated they were still working on the restaurants. I hope it has improved since then but the service was really, really, really bad. We paid $500 per night for a one bedroom oceanfront suite, and they charged extra for kitchen supplies ($100 for the week), surprising to me since I'm not sure what we would do with the kitchen without the equipment (plates, cups, cookware). Their reasoning was that they incur a lot of theft! They also charged us $20 per day to use a VCR in our room. We wanted one because there were not movies on the pay-per-view appropriate for our little kids. The pool area was nice and the grounds are extensive. Our check-in experience was a nightmare. I hope the service staff has improved since our stay in August 2000.

Hi again -

All of the restaurants on the property were terrific. It sounds like we were there over a year and some months after Susan's nightmare. We didn't incure any extra charges for kitchen utensils or anything of the like. A lot can change in a year, especially if they had a change in management.

Also, the main drive into the property is totally illuminated with white lights wrapped around all of the palm trees. Beautiful.

Have fun and enjoy the spa!!!
Karen, I'm glad to hear of such improvement! It was a place that held a lot of promise when we stayed there and I think that was part of why I was so frustrated. Under other names the resort has been there forever, my husband even went with his parents as a kid and remembered the lookout tower. From you description I was unsure we were even talking about the same place!

We had a very similar experience to Karen. We were at P. P. in August 2001 and would not hesitate to go back. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Concierge also offered a very high level of service and knowledge. All of the $50m renovations had been completed and the place looked fabulous. Bedrooms are brightly decorated with a high level of specification and quality. Great place for teenagers as there is more freedom than staying in a typical hotel. Great end to the holiday. Was very suprised about Karen's comments about San Diego - we loved it -friendly,safe,wonderful restaurants, lots to do,great beaches especially at La Jolla. Don't pay the full price at P.P. - deals are usually available. We have recommended P.P. to friends and family. Enjoy your stay. E.Mail me if you would like anymore information.
