Reno Hotels
We are skiing in Lake Tahoe in mid February. We are arriving a day earlier to Reno and would like to stay a night in Reno. What area and/or hotel would you recommend? Our only reason to stay in Reno is so that we can hit the slopes early the next day.

I personally like Silver Legacy, and it's connected to El Dorado and Circus Circus via indoor walkways which is good in winter. Also, I like the buffets at Atlantis and Pepermill south of downtown Reno, though I haven't stayed at either.
|
OK - my recommendation partly would depend on which end of the lake you are heading the next day. If Southshore/Heavenly - then the Peppermill would be good.
But if you are going to the north end (Incline Village/Squaw/Alpine) the one of the hotels near I-80 would be better (Silver Legacy/Harrah's/etc) Reason being - traffic in Reno can be pretty bad and you should be near the route you will take out of town. |
Silver Legacy for amenities, comfort and it just seem to be above all other hotels in classiness for, probably, negligible higher price.

We like the Silver Legacy. Have stayed and dined there and it's our favorite. Sometimes we hang out for couple hours when we arrive at 9-10 am in Reno, and can't check into north or south shore hotels until late afternoon.

We stayed last year at the El Dorado Hotel which is co-owned by the Ferrari-Carano winery and it is attached to a walkway to the Silver Legacy..
If I go again to Reno, I would stay at the Silver Legacy..the food at El Dorado was outstanding...Roxy's (French) and Brew Brothers.. |
I like Reno and go there whenever possible. I typically stay at the Sands Regency. The rooms are big, clean and nice. Prices are normally less than Harrahs, Silver Legacy and such. The Sands is located a couple of blocks from Virginia Street and in-house dining options are limited. They usually have shuttle busses to the slopes during ski season.
