Reno Hotel Recommendations
I will be traveling to Reno in late June 2005 with a group of 10 high school volleyball players and parents. We will be staying in the area for 7 to 8 days. I am looking for hotel suggestions ..... especially rooms that are comfortable for four people. This group will be there primarily for volleyball and not for gambling or nightlife. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Budget will be a consideration, so rooms that are a good value will be greatly appreciated.

If you feel comfortable staying in one of the casino hotels with these high schoolers, you can get fantastic rates at Reno casino hotels, for places that are pretty nice. I stayed at the Silver Legacy (a least a 3-star hotel) a couple of years ago for example, and I think I paid about $35/night.
I used TravelWorm.com then to get great rates but I have no idea what you'll find today. It may be too early to book rooms now for June 2005 but you can check that site now to sample rates.

Not sure what part of Reno the games will be taking place in, but south of Reno there's an Extended Stay America...rooms are big and have kitchenettes, they usually have weekly rates.
Reno Hilton is close to the airport area, Hilton is a chain that doesn't usually charge extra for someone under 18 in the room. Room rates at casino hotels will be much higher on Fri & Sat then on other days of the week.
I wouldn't recommend the downtown area for high school group as it's mostly casinos & such. Atlantis and Peppermill are two casino hotels that are set off by themselves and wouldn't be too bad if the rates were good (sometimes casino hotel rates can be pretty low weeknights!)
Fairfield Inn by Marriott might work you out some kind of a group rate. It's just north of Reno in Sparks.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a better rate at a casino hotel than at a non-casino one. I think Atlantis is a good suggestion, also because they can all walk next door to Liberty Belle and would have a ball eating dinner there!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm certainly open to more!!
I think they'll probably be playing at the Convention Center, at least that's where that age group played this summer. I have never been to Reno before and most of the volleyball tournaments we've traveled to have been 2 or 3 days, so it has not been quite as important to get good rooms as for this trip where we'll be there a whole week.
Your help is greatly appreciated!!

You didn't way whether you were driving or flying. If you don't have a car, the Atlantis should be the place to stay if you can get a good rate, and they usually have some of the best rates in the city. The convention center is right across the street, there is a small shopping center with grocery store across S. Virginia street...good for gettins snacks etc. There is also a small Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center. There is a Chinese buffet across the street (Keitzke Lane) in the other direction. These give you some inexpensive options for food. The Atlantis has a good buffet...not cheap but not REAL expensive if you leave out Friday night and they have another little restaurant that has good pizza, pasta, and salad and the coffe shop is pretty reasonable. They have quite a few "specials" etc. I agree with Patrick, the Liberty Bell is fun..gosh, haven't eaten there is years....but is very family oriented and kid friendly. If you have a car (s) then you could stay downtowm but it isn't as convenient. Also, they are lowering the railroad track, building a convention center and a bunch of road work, so down town is going to be a mess for the next couple of years. It's horrible....but at the same time, when it's done it will be good..new businesses and restaurants going in...if they can just survive til the trench is done. You have some time, so try to see what kind of deal you can get at the Atlantis.

We recently ate at the Reno Hilton buffet. What a disappointment. The food was cheap and nothing special. I recommend you eat at the Peppermill. As I recall the Silver Legacy buffet used to be OK as well but haven't been there lately.
