rendezvous restaurant portland
Hi.
I need suggestions for a quiet, discreet, out-of-the-way restaurant in Portland.
And,yes, I realize out of the way and downtown Portland, dont necesarily mesh. But I am confident that those of you familiar with Portland can come up with a few suggestions. I lived in Portland for 25 years, but am having trouble coming up with ideas that meet my needs for an upcoming weekend.

OK...I will mind my own business.....
Out of the way meaning where no one will recognise you? or can it be in town but with low lighting and big booths where you can be private, or even and upstairs where you will not be seen by the entire room?
Off the top of my head, which is still spinning from thoughts of another trip to Buenos Aires and Christmas, now I get to add a rendezvous
....I would suggest...
Fenouil, which has an upstairs, you can look down on people etc but there are not a lot of tables up there, you can be fairly private.
Carlyle, just a wonderful room, nice lighting, perfect service.
A new place on Couch and 10th (NW) is called 1001 and they also have an upstairs.
Bluehour might be good, they have drapes that they can pull around your table and close you in totally private! or a small "back room" where you can be alone together..
None of these is particularly Out Of The Way just with nice rooms where you can pretend that you are alone in the room...
Totally private would be a room at the 5th Avenue Suites with Room Service from the Red Star Tavern
If I have more ideas or if you add more details, I will be happy to help with the rendezvous..

Carlyle came first to my mind. It's probably one of Portland's best restaurants, but tucked away in a borderline industrial area of NW. Noble Rot, on the other side of town, might work too. It's more a wine bar, but serves small plates done very well. If it's a weekend, you'll need reservations at Carlyle. Noble Rot doesn't take them, so either be there shortly after opening, or take your chances.

Are you looking for romantic or more just out of the hubub? Neither of these fits romantic, but both have good food and are not smack in the middle of downtown. On the east side of the river (not far from the Rose Quarter) is Widmer's Gasthaus. It is not quiet on the weekends, but try it during the week. Near Keller Auditorium is Carafe.

Lcuy and I just had lunch at Silk which used to be called Pho Van Bistro, I think a table in the back with the curtains drawn would be a rendezvous sort of place..
Hurleys is small and nice and might be a good choice, Park Kitchen is not a good spot for anything private ( too small-tables too close-spotty service)
but the food is good.
I like the idea of the Chart House , at least you will not be in the heart of Portland where someone might notice you.
Are you ever going to tell us more, like details? LOL

And, yes, Miss Scarlett, ..a rendezvous! And, yes, we would rather not be recognized by anyone we know...does that peak your curiosity? It doesnt have to be a terribly romantic venue...thats what hotels and room service is for....and the suggestion of room service from the Red Star will be utilized! But we would also like to venture out in relative anonyminity. I am thinking the Chart House and Silk and Fenouil might be a nice mix for the weekend.
