Remember the "price of gas" debates.....now its $1.29....whats going on???

6 months or so ago, we were al be-moaninig the high price of gas and how it was going to affect our travel plans. Since I'm from Milwaukee and we were paying over $2 a gallon, I was one of the more vocal. Tonight, I see they are charging $1.29 a gallon. I have not seen that for years!! Given the middle east situation, I'd have thought gas would be high. Can somebody explain...please??

economies down, so demand for energy is down. Supply remains uninterrupted, and therefore constant. Therefore, classic economics, the price drops. Supply and demand explain most prices.

bj...you are paying $1.29???? Here in southeastern Michigan we are paying .995 per gallon (except at the freeway exits where they rip you off at $1.19. Hope the lower prices come your way soon!

I just paid $1.699 per gallon for 87 octane...on Long Island

I paid @1.45 in Lake Placid, NY

Laura - let's enjoy it while it lasts! I live in the thumb of Michigan and on September 11 the local gas stations raised their prices to $3.50 a gallon! What was even more outrageous were the long lines of cars waiting to fill up at that price. Even before 9/11, we were gouged terribly, rarely paying below $1.89, so personally I will enjoy filling up at $1.11 (what it is up here) for as long as it lasts.

San Diego - $1.47 for 87 octane.

Jan Oct 27th, 2001 07:35 AM

I'm excited to see $1.69 in Northern CA!

Chuck Oct 27th, 2001 07:57 AM

It dropped to $1.05 in Ohio and now it's back up to around $1.14. It never ceases to amaze me how stations across town can have prices as much as .10-.15 per gallon lower than where I live.

Just paid 0.989 For 87 octane. Hi-test is 1.109. I love it. Lee in Austin/Tejas

I just paid $1.79 a gallon for regular here in SF bay area. The Chervron, Unical, Tosco and Valero refineries are all less that 20 miles from my house. Two are practically in my back yard.
Go figure!

Barry Oct 27th, 2001 11:35 AM

Gas prices are so low in my town that the government wants to add another 50 cents on to the tax to pay for schools, sounds like a good idea to me.

Laura Oct 27th, 2001 12:10 PM

Me, Again. Just got back from filling up at KMart...95 cents a gallon!!!!

For Oct 27th, 2001 12:10 PM

Barry DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good now, but when the cost of gas goes up, that $.50 is gonna stay tacked on to each gallon of that expensive gasoline. Think, Barry, think!!!

citygirl Oct 27th, 2001 04:50 PM

KMart sells gas??

Laura Oct 27th, 2001 04:53 PM

Well, many Kmarts do in Michigan. And sometimes their prices are even lower than Costco's.

Kathy Oct 27th, 2001 05:22 PM
Dallas - cheapest gas $1.09.
Roger Oct 27th, 2001 07:41 PM
