Relocation to Detroit

So, my sister, who just moved to Saginaw, MI 6 months ago, now has to move to Detroit. I would appreciate any advice I can give her as to what areas to look at, and which to avoid. Thank you.

Depends on her tastes and interests and where her work is located. Very broad question. I lived in the Detroit area for 25 years and travel back on business frequently. If she has lots of money I would recommend Birmingham/Bloomfield area and if she is younger with less money, Royal Oak or Berkley

The city of Detroit is a sad example on urban decay: no matter how many casinos &sports venues they throw up, the residential and retail areas remain stagnant.

I agree with LMF. I would recommend anything in Oakland County. Farmington Hills is actually my favorite area and affordable (somewhat pricey, but not bad - Birmingham is actually the nicest of all areas - it is just unreasonably priced for what you get). Southfield is also a community on the rise with some great housing values and on a steady incline.

I used to live in Saginaw for one year. I loved Terry and Jerry's O Sole' Mio restaurant in Bay City. If you wanted to take your sister for a real treat before she moved - check it out. It's in Bay City, up near Sagnaw and is one of my favorite Michigan restaurants. Nothing too fancy, but an excellent spot!

Happy Trails,
Paul

PS Sounds as if LMF is living my dream! *eg* ~~~Someday~~~

Thank you so much, I realize this isn't a relocation board, so I truly appreciate the information. I think they are looking for a 2br apt or preferably a townhouse for $700-800/month.

Actually, I sent her a certificate to the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, so they could get out of the cold and relax and go swimming with their 18 month old.

Thank you again, have a great week!
I have some additional information. The hospital my sister's husband will be working at is in Farmington Hills. He is an operations manager, not a Dr., so $800 is about what they can handle for rent. Thank you for any further information.
