Relocating with Children

Hello guys!! I am really wanting to relocate to Tampa, Florida. Due to unfortunate events, I have decide to come down South. I have heard/read so many positive and negative comments. From the internet and word of mouth. I found that there is a lot in subsidized and based on income housing. Why is that? Just when I think I have found a beautiful apartment, the reviews are horrible and frightening! Then...oh goodness the complaints of palmetto bugs aka roaches? I'm extremely torn. One minute I become excited, the next I'm worried I'll be stuck in KY the rest of my adult life -__- So, if anyone in the county/area/city could give me insight and which zip codes are ideal? Any confirmation would be welcoming!
