relocating to the Albany area
We may be relocating to the Albany area in the near future and are looking for recommendations as to where to live. We have considered the Ballston Spa/Clifton Park area and would like to know if there are others we should consider. Thanks!

I would say NOT to consider the Schenectady or Troy area as they have high property taxes and not a good school system. Other good areas are Colonie, Saratoga Springs, Delmar, Bethleham.

What are your primary desires for a housing area?
Jobs/commute, schools, open space, etc? Many families like the Guilderland area (schools). While the schools in Clifton Park are excellent there are many who complain about the size. If you want open space there is growth East of Albany in Rensselaer county with easy access on I-90. A lot depends on what you want. |
We moved away from the area too long ago for me to be of help with details. But the area is SO beautiful! We were in Middle Grove, which we loved except for the school. But like I said, its been a few years so I can't comment on it as that wouldn't be accurate at all.
There is so much to do and see in the area. If you do relocate, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. |
The Capital District is a wonderful area. But I need more info before I can help. It's a pretty large area encompassing several counties (Albany, Sch'dy, Rensselaer, Saratoga), and there are lots of great choices depending on your needs/wants.
Clifton Park would be my last choice. Just a sprawling suburban area with no character and miles of strip malls. Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa is more rural, yet convenient to everything. If you are opting for Saratoga County, I would strongly recommend B Spa over CP. I have to disagree with radiofanatic about Schenectady and Troy. I've worked in Troy for many years, and it's a beautiful, friendly small city with so much character (and many characters too!) And Schenectady County has many excellent schools (Scotia Glenville is rated one of the best in NYS!) and lots of diverse towns, villages and neighborhoods. Even the downtown area is showing signs of a comeback! More info about your needs/wants would help a lot. |
