Relocating to Kentucky?

Hi,

My husband and I are seriously considering relocating to Kentucky from Wisconsin the latter part of this year.

We are considering Elizabethtown, Owensboro, and Hopkinsiville. Can anyone tell me about these cities? I own a dog Rescue that we will still continue to do in Kentucky as well.

We are looking for a smaller town that is easy to get around in, where cost of housing is reasonable, and where the residents are friendly.

I would greatly appreciate any comments anyone can provide.

Thank You!!!!

I have to admit that I have never been to Owensboro or Hopkinsville, so I don't know how helpful I will be, but Elizabethtown is a very nice place to live. It is small enough to feel like a hometown, but large enough to offer decent shopping and arts opportunities. Two of my best friends from college live there and I have visited several times and found it easy enough to get around without getting lost. It is a very attractive area with friendly residents. Another plus is that it is only a 30-45 minute drive from Louisville.

Thank you for your input. E-Town does sound like it has several advantages and from the research I have found, it definitley will be considered by my husband and I. It is nice to know someone else like the city.

Thanks,

Owensboro is a nice town, too. It's on the Ohio River, 100 miles or so from Louisville, has two colleges, and is (maybe self-named) the barbecue capital of the world. There are beautiful older houses as well as newer developments.

I would choose Owensboro first, E-town second, and Hopkinsville last; but Hopk is closer to KY Lake and the Land between the Lakes vacation region.

If you like to travel, then definitely E-Town for its location -- closer to Louisville's airport. Owensboro is in the middle of nowhere and Hopkinsville ... where exactly is Hopkinsville???

All kidding aside, I agree that proximity to Louisville tips the balance in E-Town's favor (for any number of reasons in addition to the airport).

Gekko, don't you think they might like Lexington or Shelbyville, too?

Find out if they construct hair pillows in Kentucky - ie craft stores - it will be quaint.

The original poster said she is considering three options, so I limited my comments to those three.

And I should have added that Owensboro is a fine little town -- I was there recently, stayed at the "downtown" Executive Inn on the Ohio River. But E-Town gets my vote (of the 3 stated options).
