Thanks everyone. Can anyone recommend some reasonable hotel/motels where I can stay while I am searching for my rental home. I usually can get gov. rates at places like Courtyard Marriot, Residence Inn, Comfort Inn etc. I'd like something in a good stratetic location where I easily drive into springfield to look at homes, but also close to alexandria. This move is more real now since I received confirmation of the job this week. I have 90 billion things to do. They are all written down. Hopefully everything is there because that is the only way I'll remember anything because I'm a nervous wreck. Wish me luck.

There's a Courtyard on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria. It's a little over a mile from Old Town Alexandria, and a little over a mile down Eisenhower to get onto the Beltway. It's across the street from Eisenhower Avenue metro station.
In an effort to avoid Springfield, have a look at the Mount Vernon area. It's south of Alexandria, with lots of single family homes with yards.

Katolb90, FYI -- this month Washingtonian Magazine's cover story is about pets and their care in the DC area. You can check out the website http://www.washingtonian.com/.
