Relaxing/Sightseeing City Combo
Hi,
I would like some suggestions on a 2 or 3 city trip that would satisfy my wife, who needs to sightsee & shop, and myself who likes to sit by the pool or beach & relax. We have done Hilton Head/Charleston, San Francisco/Wine Country & San Diego/Las Vegas the last 3 years. Thanks for your help. |
What time of the year? That'll make a big difference.
Would Be Going In The Middle of June.
Chicago. Great shopping and some of the hotels have very nice pools. And of course, the town has great nightlife, restaurants and museums. Stay close to Mag Mile (Michigan Avenue).
Thanks, I agree. We live 30 miles from Chicago & have been there quite a bit. Need to get a little further away from home though.
Are you OK with Florida in June? If so, then check out St. Pete or Sarasota areas. You'll get the amenities of the city with the glories of the beaches.
Thanks Tandoori Girl. We have gone to St. Beach Beach,in the fall, for the last 10 years or so. We love the Alden Beach Resort & the Blackened Mahi-Mahi at the Wharf.
Santa Fe, NM might be a little warm in June for you but it would combine lots of sightseeing/shopping with some great relaxing.
How about New England? You could try a Boston\Cape combo, Portland\Maine beaches, Newport\RI or CT beaches. Any of these cities could be combined with the NH Lakes region or Portsmouth NH. The ocean water will be freezing but that's always true. The weather should be very nice by mid-June.
New York/Hamptons and your wife will find shopping not only in NY but also in Hamptons.
IMO, some of the best shopping high end and discount in and around Ft Lauderdale/Boca Raton/West Palm Beach. |
Thanks for the ideas. Santa Fe is one area we are looking into. Also Boston & Bar Harbor.
I would second the Boston/Maine combo. We spent a few days in Boston followed by a week in Camdem, ME. It was a great trip.
Oops, that's Camden, Maine.
