Relaxing birthday trip
 

Hey guys, I want to take my wife somewhere nice and romantic for her birthday. Given that she is pregnant I do not want anything too tiring...something more relaxing with a few activities. But given that this is our last chance to travel before the baby..I want to make it a special one...any clues?? Something like a nice massage with the works at a nice hotel at a beachy resort..we are in New York so we do not want a long air travel.

You're a very special (and smart) husband to do this for your wife. Three months before I delivered our first baby, my husband and I went to DC and Philadelphia with the idea that it would be our last "city fix" for quite some time. We had a great time, but when I look at all the photos, all I can see is my face looking more and more haggard as each day progressed... We should really have gone the relaxing route, not the marathon route!

Anyway, the sky's wide open for you. You'll get lots of wonderful advice from everyone, but here's mine: we are partial to the wonderful Ritz Carlton on Vanderbilt Beach in Naples, Florida. You'd be flying into Fort Meyers Beach for that one. The hotel is right on the beach, the pool is beautiful, the verandas have comfortable rocking chairs, and the landscaping is lush. It's a very elegant, wonderful place.

Naples itself has many fine restaurants and galleries. There's a very good museum as well as the symphony and theatre. We're always well pleased when we visit Naples.

Also Gurney's Inn in Montauk has a beachfront location & a spa. Spring Lake, NJ is a charming Victorian town on the beach. No spas that I know of but nice, relaxing ambiance.

The Sagamore, near Lake George. Very relaxing, lots of nice spots to sit around the lake and resort. I visited the spa but did not have time to take advantage of any of the treatments. It offered several spa treatments commonly offered at resorts. I would recommend a room in the main building, saves some walking. Check out their website for pictures and further info.

There is no need to leave the resort, restaurants on property are very good. They also offer tennis, golf, boat trip, indoor pool, boat rentals, etc.
