Rehoboth to Wilmington to Cape May - scenic route suggestions please
Escaping the Memorial Day crowds here in Rehoboth for a few days - looking for a scenic trip from Brandywine Valley to Cape May (taking the ferry home) suggestions for neat small towns to drive through and what not to miss as far as good restaurants - not too fancy - just fresh salads etc.. Planning on Nemours and the Wyeth museum in Wilmington. Not an Atlantic City couple - just want to drive around to see where we might want to go back for a long weekend.

You might be on your way already but I'll add a few ideas. I would spend all my time in the Brandywine Valley and forget about South Jersey unless you want to spend a night along the shore in one of the small towns such as Stone Harbor or Cape May. Normally it would be impossible to find a room this weekend at the beach but the weather is cool and people may be staying away.
In Brandywine Valley, Kennett Square, PA is a darling town with some cute little restaurants. We had dinner a couple of nights ago at the House of William and Merry in Hokessin, DE. It was high-end, good food but not fancy.
As you are driving down the coast, you can go into the Wildwoods and drive past the nostalgic mid-century hotels. It's fun to see the different themes. If you end up in Stone Harbor, I can recommend a number of restaurants for lunch. Dinner could be tough with the holiday crowds.
Make sure you drive into Cape May. You won't see the town if you go straight to the ferry. And make reservations for the ferry. Sunday if you are taking it on Memorial Day.

Thanks everyone - we decided to take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry on Memorial Day - drove to Stone Harbor (good lunch & small but lovely parade) through the Wildwoods - then all afternoon in Cape May - trolley tour was great ($10)-finally Sunset Beach - We will do Brandywine Valley on a separate trip
