The National Park Service has an excellent information center in Crescent City.
Rangers will give info on the area, lots of brochures, books to choose from.
It's a good stop for those seeking info.

We found the best place to eat in Crescent City was the Harvest Bread.

I haven't tried Belching Beaver - I'll have to look them up next time I am in San Diego :)

My favorite brewery in the Redwood NP area is Mad River in Blue Lake. Its just inland from Eureka and very much worth the small detour. Really good beers and the people who own the brewery are great.

If your trip takes you to the Fort Bragg/Mendocino area, check out North Coast in Fort Bragg - this is another one of my favorites.

Love North Coast. Haven't been to Mad River yet -- will have to try it.

So I have talked with Wife on trip and she said she would prefer to not staying somewhere different every night. We would like to try and stay at one place and drive from their. Maybe move once. Probably stay in park 3 to 4 days.

Did anyone mention the town of Trinidad? That would make a nice base for a few days.

November- I did suggest the Trinidad Inn. No views but units are nice, some with kitchens.

That is generally what I like to do too -- but it doesn't work so well on the North coast. It is a very linear region and no one place works to visit the different parks/site. You will do better with 2 or 3 stopovers.

I had previously bookmarked the View Crest Lodge in Trinidad. Looks nice and gets good online reviews. Anyone know of / recommend that place?

(november_moon, To be specific, it was Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout - if you like those foo-foo dark beers like I do, not an IPA guy. Tried it in a brewpub in Pismo then bought bottles while we were staying in Cambria last month. Unavailable in Colorado, though the guy who has a craft beer store in town wished he could get his hands on some.)

Thanks for feedback. Was wondering if we stayed in the North end of the Redwoods and visited Del Norte, Jedediah Smith and Prairie Creek Redwoods if we would be happy. We have 4 days. We are flying into Portland and taking a few days driving the Oregon coastline. Wanted to stop and stay at one place for a few days. Would we be happy without visiting Humboldt Park and that area of California.

I think that's a terrific plan Bone. Humboldt redwoods is great, but you have a lot of really wonderful redwood groves in the north too. I don't think you would be missing out by taking your time seeing the northern parks.

I like that as well. There are some areas there you may wish you had a picnic luncn. Come prepared.

The less dashing about the better IMO - so either staying just north for Jedediah Smith/Prairie Creek OR just south for Humboldt would be fine.
