Redeeming foreign currency

I have 25 British pounds left from a family member's trip that I would like to exchange for U.S. currency. Does anyone have a suggestion on the most economical place to do the exchange? Would a bank or airport be better? Other suggestions? Thanks so much.

Are you sure you want to exchange it? I ask only because we have a collection of currency from everywhere we travel to and it is fun to explore every so often. On each trip abroad we save two of every coin and small bills from each country for the kids. Also, what about keeping it for a trip there? Now there is incentive to plan the next trip!

check out your mall, there may be an american express travel office in there and they exchange currency.

I'd go to a nearby bank, after calling first to make sure they'd do the transaction. AmEx office is also a good idea, but again, call first. I wouldn't drive to the airport and pay to park for that small an amount, especially since the difference in exchange rates wouldn't be more than a few percentage points. Good luck!

Our local bank exchanges even unusual currency for dollars (exchanged leftover Egyptian pounds). For that amount, don't worry about a tiny difference in exchange rate.

While not the case, of course, with British pounds, some countries do not let you import or export any currency - such as Russian rubles.

Thanks so much for your responses. I'll call my bank tomorrow. I hope to use those "worthless" bills to fund the fuel for my road trip to Santa Fe. Cheerio!

Jayne1973,
Your "worthless" GBPs are worth $46.75 US!
I'll give you $40. if that beats your bank exchange rate!
