Gail, we decided at the last minute to spent a night in Redding last year when we were driving home Canada. We stayed had a Best Western directory that we had picked up at another B.W. and chose a place in Redding. It was soooot cheap, I think about $55.00. We made phone reservations and were worried about what type of place it would be because of the price. Boy were we pleanantly surprised. It was very nice, and very clean. It is directly across from a Safeway Market, but other than that I don't remember the name of street. If you can find it, it and it is still in that price range, I would recommend it. The Best Western 800 number, or directory, may be able to help you finding it. There were several Best Westerns in Redding, some along the highway I think.<BR><BR>A really great restaurant was recommended by the desk clerk. It's called Jacks on California Street. They serve fabulous steaks, huge portions, and was completely filled with local families. From the outside it looks like a dumpy bar, but don't let that fool or bother you. They don't take reservations, but the hostess saw that we were 'tourists' on looked very tired, and she sat us right away. When my husband asked what they had for desert, <BR>the waitress laughingly asked if he hadn't had enough to eat, and then told him that they don't have deserts. It was an excellent meal and we would definitely go back if we were in the area again. It would be a 5 minute cab ride from the motel. Not fancy, but fun and good food and serice. Apparently it has been there for years and is a local institution. <BR><BR>Be forwarned - Redding can be very very hot.
