Red Sox Spring Training Hotels - FL

Hi all,

I am planning a surprise trip for my boyfriend to Ft. Myers in March and would like your advice on hotels.

I have stayed in Naples plenty of times, at what was then the Registry. I have been doing research and I wonder if it is worth it to stay down there again, given the travel distance to the games. We are only there for a long weekend and plan to spend a 1/2 day of beach and 2 days at the games, then heading back home.

He has never been to the area and I would love to stay somewhere a bit more scenic but would like your advice on hotels in Naples, Ft. Myers, and any surrounding areas.

Pool or beach would be nice, and I will pay for a close location for the convenience, yet I haven't seen many nicer hotels within 15 miles of the spring training facility.

Thank you!

Mary

For upscale accomodations, consider Sanibel or Captiva... that would put you 30-40 minutes from the ballpark.... there's a toll and some traffic....

Ft Myers beach has several great medium accomodations including the DiamondHead hotel right on the beach... again traffic may play a part in March...

Naples is quite a drive...plus during spring break... its no fun driving up and down 41 or 75....

I would choose a place like Tween Waters and stay on the Gulf...

Thanks Gary,

I ended up booking at the Sanibel Inn - knowing it is a drive but I think/hope worth staying in a lovely place and will have pool/beach time at the end of the day. I appreciate your help! We'll be there 4 days for 2 games so it will be a good mix of baseball/other activities.

Go Sox!

Hopefully you have tickets already to the games as they are all sold out

Thanks. I have tickets to Fridays and Saturdays games.
We fly in Thursday and depart Sunday, so I think this should be a good quick surprise trip for him.

If you have recommendations on cheap but good placed to eat in Sanibel or near please let me know!

I will post a trip report when I am back. You have been helpful!

Two good and reasonable restaurants on Sanibel are Timbers for seafood and Matzaluna for Italian... owned by the same company, both are casual and fun... also consider the Mucky Duck on Captiva, and the Keylime Bistro... perfect for us hungry SOX fans celebrating back to back World Championships!!!!!
