Red Rock State Park - closing?

http://azstateparks.com/Parks/RERO/index.html

Can anyone shed any light on these park closings due to budget cuts? In particular, does this mean that Red Rock SP will simply not be manned? Will you still be able to drive thru or otherwise access the area? Are these parks closed until further notice?

We have a family trip planned for the Sedona area next October and although these reported closings won't stop us I'm a little bummed out by this news.

"For more information about the 27 State Parks, statewide hiking opportunities, off-highway vehicle trails, and other outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities in Arizona, call (602) 542-4174 (outside of the Phoenix metro area call toll-free 800-285-3703)"

Why not call and ask them?

Oh, I have some tears on my cheeks as I read this. We go to thispark every yr. on our yearly trip to Sedona. We have had so many great family experiences at this park over the last 12 yrs. Several ranger guided full moon hikes (our favorite), ranger led the hike to the old homestead on the property, etc. This is really very sad.

Please post back what you find out if you call. Thank you. Damn, that sucks.

Last I read they are closing all but 9 over the 1st half of this year. I guess they failed to take into consideration how much $$ they will be losing in revenue due to a reduction in visitors. Idiot politicians.

SAnParis2--

Actually, their press release makes it sound like they DID that that into account. According to http://azstateparks.com/press/2010/PR_01-15-10.html the 9 parks that will remain open are the ones that generate the most revenue for the state parks system.

I saw that part of it, but there is no way they have considered other revenue to businesses & towns that depend on the parks being open. Not to mention the longterm damage that could occur @ several that could never be made right. The ruins, etc.

As Cranachin suggested, I will call the numbers listed within the next few days and report back what info I learn.
