Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab
Has anyone recently stayed at Red Cliffs Lodge? If we can find reservations for mid May we plan to visit the area. What are the distances from the hotel to Arches, Caynonlands and Moab? Just about all of the reviews at Tripadvisor.com are five dots, the highest, but nobody talks about the distances.
Thanks |
it's 14 miles from Moab and so from Arches.Drive is nice to do
and no more than 20/25 mn, but scenery and the lodge itself worth the miles... For canyonlands and Dead horse, it's longer, but not too long. Erik |
Thanks. We made reservations at Besert Hill B & B.

M,
I haven't stayed at the Lodge myself, but have visited it for their horseback riding, which I would not recommend for anyone other than folks who have never been on a horse before. I like to stay in or near town (when not camping) because the drive out to Red Cliffs does take a while and it's not a drive I would want to make both ways every day. All the things to visit in the Moab area are west from the Red Cliffs. The only area to visit east of the lodge is the Fisher Towers area. I you stay in town you can walk/bike to almost everything and you don't have to backtrack every day. I'll be there mid-May too. I'm doing a home exchange and some good friends who have never been to Moab are joining me - finally! Have fun |
MSheinberg - we stayed at the Desert Hills last Oct. Here's our report for what it's worth:

Too late, I guess but I loved Red Cliffs Lodge.
From my TA review (October 2008), quoting: "It will add about an extra 20 to 30 minutes each way to reach Arches if you stay here, rather than in Central Moab." |
I have to agree with Dayle. We stayed there last time we went (we usually go down about twice a year). I love Arches and love coming and going but Red Cliffs was just too far away. It is far enough from the city that you can't run in for snacks. If you want to hang out at a resort and just do one trip in it would be okay but my kids were a little bored there as well. I agree about the horse rides-kind of boring. The hiking and biking in Moab are the best. Don't miss the petroglyphs on Pot Ash Road-across the highway from Arches.
