Has anyone been there?? is it worth going?? dinner or lunch?? where is it??

Yes, many of us NYers and others have ben there many times. It's considered an upscale neighborhood place - the owner Jimmy Bradley is very respected - he also runs The Harrison. The food is very good, beautifully prepared, presented and served, lusty and full of flavor. they are open only for dinner. reserve through www.opentable.com. It's on 10th Avenue and 23rd St. in Chelsea.

It's really wonderful. It's sort of what a lot of trendy places try to be these days, but somehow Red Cat pulls it off without seeming like they're trying so hard. So relaxed, so friendly, so organized, so good.

And yes, I like The Harrison too. It's funny we saw John Lithgow in a show one night at The Flea, then we walked to the Harrison for late dinner afterwards, a pretty good walk as I recall. As we got to the door of the restaurant, he was arriving with party in a limo. I waved my program at him, and said "hey we walked, and we beat you". He laughed and asked how we liked the show. Then asked if we had eaten there before and he said it was his favorite place.

how do I get from the palace to chelsey?? is it very far?? easy to get a taxi on the way back?

The Red Cat is far enough west that the only practical way is to take a taxi. You won't have any problems doing that in either direction.

Don't people walk any more?

I always take the subway then walk to Red Cat.
It's just two blocks (yes, the "long blocks") directly west of the 23rd street stop on the C or E.

I've never taken a taxi. I suppose if like last February and the temperature is below zero, I would.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE RED CAT!! It's the perfect place for dinner. They change the menu kind of frequently, but definitely order the tempura bacon appetizer if they have it. Also, any time of pig dish they have is usually excellent. Yum!

wow Doug, really - as Patrick says - it's only two long blocks from the C or E at 23rd St. and 3 long blocks from the 7th Ave line . . don't you live on the east side and have to schlep over to Lexington? !

Yea, I'm still sort of reeling from that comment that the only practical way to get there is by taxi. We're talking NYC! Two blocks?

I will pack my walking shoes when I'm in Manhattan next month. I will "practice" in San Francisco tomorrow. :-)

Give me a break and be at least moderately realistic. Tenth Avenue is pretty far west in my book. I live on the east side, and I would probably even take a taxi there. The New York Palace is at 51st/Madison I think. The closest E subway stop is at 666 5th Avenue.

While I'm all in favor of tourists taking the subway, I just don't think Carlota is going to do that. But if that's not the case, then Take the E and hoof it. It's an uninviting stretch of street, but it's as safe as anywhere else in Manhattan.
