Recommending new L.A. resto
For a weekend holiday Sunday brunch/lunch we went to The Tavern in Brentwood (San Vicente Blvd). It's the old passe' Hamburger Hamlet which had been completely re-designed in the last year. The ambience, service, menu offerings are all excellent..it has become a unique and delightful place owned and operated by two known local women...chef Suzanne Goin and sommelier Caroline Styne. The picture of it's outdoors dining (covered by a tent "celing") gives you an idea of the new look of the place.
Click on menus, also. Prices are moderate to a bit more expensive...large portions, expertly prepared. I was very impressed and can heartily recommend The Tavern to anyone either visiting or living in L.A.. I predict it will become a major westside dining destination, if it hasn't already. stu tower http://www.tavernla.com/ |
p.s. If you favor carrot cake for a dessert...theirs takes the Blue Ribbon!...feeds two easily.

Thanks, Tower. I'll have to zip over to Brentwood and check it out. I love carrot cake. But, if it has creme cheese frosting, I'll have to scrape it off....dairy allergy. Smiles. Happy Travels!

Hi Guenmai...they seem to be very accomodating..and if requested, I'm convinced they would do the scraping honors before delivering to you! It's one step beyond divine.

Love their names...they look like they're "stayin' and goin"

Good one, Lucy! They are a very friendly pair..the sommelier makes the rounds constantly, saying hello to all diners..pretty lady at that...I noticed.

I hope they will let you back, now that they know you.
(I did not see prices on the menu, did I miss them?) |
You can't go wrong with Suzanne Goin!
One of the nice things about this is place is that they're open through out the day. We were looking for a spot to meet my step sister when were both in town for a few days and had a very brief window of time. This was perfect and they were very accommodating |
