recommended lodging between Girdwood and Seward
 

Can anyone recommend lodging between Girdwood and Seward Alaska. Would prefer it cost less than $150 a night

Oh valj...this is when i spank myself for not keep a travel journal. We made the trip from our base in Girdwood to Seward on 2 different days. To my memory, it was less than a 2 hr. trip??? I do remember as we were traveling to Seward that there was a very nice looking hotel (log cabin type)...it had toteum poles outside... on the left side of the highway. We stopped and visited their gift shop. It is right on the side of the road with a small lake in its backyard. If you're lucky, either Judy or Budget Queen will come to your rescue. Honestly, their input will be invaluable to your itinerary. Perhaps I have given them enough info to name this spot. Truthfully, there are no towns that I remember between the two...just some small communities. Good luck!!

I'll sort of second the 1st response. unless there's a really specific reason to stay somewhere in between, I think you'd be better off with an extra night in either town.

There is Trail Lake Lodge which is nice, but maybe out of the price range? Also Inn at Tern Lake?? Both at Moose Pass.

Thanks!! I will check these out. We are so interested in each opinion. We want to make the most out of our 2 free days prior to our cruise. We are also open to suggestions for the best things to do at Seward & Girdwood. We are starting at Anchorage & ending at Whittier. Thanks to all!!

Suggestions from our trip:
In Seward: Sealife Center, boat trip, dogsled ride (in town and another via heliocopter on the glacier.Close..rafting out of Cooper's Landing

In Whittier: ONLY thing to do except a hike is on the water..wierd town Truthfully, if you're doing a boat trip out of Seward...skip Whittier altogether

Between Girdwood and Whittier..Portgage Glacier (really not a very big deal) however, the visitor's center was very interesting.
Also very close is the Wildlife Refuge Center...a drive and/or walk thru...most of the animals have been rescued...very good way to spend about an hour or so....

Girdwood...tram behind the Alyeska, parasail from the top of the tram, hike...several good trails close.

The top priority for me out of Seward is a Kenai fjords boat trip of at least 6 hours on the water. I disagree on the Whittier, boat trips, also spectacular and offer just breath taking glacier viewing. WAY superior to anything you will see from your cruise ship. Request visitor guides.

Last summer we stayed at the Jewel of the North B & B in Moose Pass. It was very nice and only $100/nite. It was a separate loft apartment on the owners property. There is only the one unit so you will have complete privacy. The unit consists of a living room (with pull down bed if you need it), kithcen, bedroom and bath. And in the bath is a washer and dryer for guest use..one dollar for a load. It is fairly new and very well kept. There is a yard for your use next to the river. And fresh baked goods are provided each morning.

We used this as a base to take days trips to Seward, Russian River Falls Hiking, Hope, and Portage Glacier.

We also enjoyed lunch and dinner at the Summit Lake Lodge. They appeared to do some flightseeing from there as well.

Enjoy your trip to Alaksa..wish I were going again....maybe next year.

We have stayed at two B&Bs in the Moose Pass area and highly recommend both. The Spruce Moose has two chalets. Our chalet had room for eight to sleep (bedroom downstairs, loft bedroom upstairs, sleeper sofa on ground floor, and sleeper sofa on first floor. There was only one bathroom in the chalet. The kitchen was fully-furnished with appliances, cookware,dishes, flatware, and basic spices. The views were amazing; we watched float planes land on the lake through. There is a private hot tub. Breakfast was delivered every morning and featured muffins, juice, fruit, and other goodies. The chalet did have tv with satellite. There is also a free washer and dryer in the chalet.

We have also stayed at Teddy's Inn the Woods (on the Seward side of Moose Pass). Teddy greets you with home-baked cookies. There is only one guest chalet available. It has a separate bedroom and then sleeping space for four in the living room. The kitchen is lovely. The breakfasts are scrumptious. The only drawback is no tv (but who really needs one).

If you're in the Cooper Landing area, stop at Gwin's for Salmon Chowder!
