recommended family accom in/near la jolla, san diego

My family is travelling to San Diego to see all it has to offer. Can't wait. We are 2 adults and kids - 7,5 and 2 years old. I am looking for accom which is spacious and not over the top expensive. Ideally a 2 bedroom suite would be nice. The Grande Colonial is currently on my list but only as a Qu/Qu Junior suite. Does anybody have recommendations for me? We would like to be near restaurants, beach, heated pool if beach is too cold, and grass/playground/area to walk or runaround in. We will have a car but don't really want to use it except to get to places like Legoland, Wild Animal Park, Zoo etc..Appreciate any help!!

When is this trip? What $$ amount do you want to spend, per night?

Yes, I omitted to mention that we are travelling to San Diego end April/early May for 2 weeks. And with the Aussie dollar falling, I hope to spend around US$250-300 per night. Is it warm enough then to expect to be swimming most days?

When we were in San Diego we stayed at the Homewood Suites Del Mar-it was very nice. We had a one bedroom suite, but I think they do have two bedroom suites available. Breakfast and afternoon drinks and lite dinner is included with the room.

The Torrey Pines Beach was nearby, but you need a car to get there.

love the Grande Colonial and you could get a jr. suite for the price point.
Cheaper accomadations and across the street is Best Western Inn of La Jolla.
Hotel La Jolla Shores is oceanfront and would be ideal for your children to play in one of the nicest beaches and in the small village of LJ Shores..Piatti's, Jeff's Burgers, Barabarella and they have their own great oceanfront restaurant..it's part of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis resort.
Estancia hotel and resort is up the hill on Torrey Pines but lovely and affordable 4*.
Hotel La Jolla is a high rise that has sweeping ocean views and under $200 a night.
Kids will love Legoland and the Grand Pacific Resort next to Legoland has 2 bedroom suites with full kitchen and our friends love it for the room, ocean view and next door to Legoland.
SD Zoo and Sea World are huge hits with the kids too.
Lots of good deals right now.
It's in the high 70's today and hard to predict the weather but usually its lovely with very little rain that time of year.
Expedia.com is awesome for finding great deals.
Beach/ocean temps will be around mid 60's but the kids will have a ball playing in water and making sand castles.
