You might want to check http://www.andromeda.com/people/ddyer/photo/albums.html . This is a great resource that gives the pros and cons of the various photo-hosting sites. There is more to it than meets the eye....

www.worldisround.com seems to attract lots of people.

Maggi: You are a great photographer, and your pictures are wonderful. I get really good outdoor pictures with my OLD 35mm Canon Rebel and 75-300mm telephoto lens, but the indoor photos are never exactly true color. I would love to try a digital camera. What kind do you use?

If your indoor shots aren't "true" color take them back to the printer and tell them to correct the color filter.

Those photos were all taken with an older digital and a cheap one at that: a Fuji FinePix 1400. I'm ready for a better one. I too have a Canon Rebel. Canon makes a digital SLR Rebel. It's pricey ($999), but I think this may be our next camera.

Gretchen may be right about the developing. If you have your photos developed anywhere other than a specialized photo lab you get basically what their machine is set to do. A professional photo lab will look at each negative individually. It's a bit more expensive than the mass market developers, but it might be worth it to you.

The film type may also have something to do with it. For instance, some say Fuji Astia film is good for skin tones and Kodak Velvia is bad for skin tones.

If you are interested in photography you could become friendly with the staff at a good camera store or photo lab and they will give you lots of advice. Or you could take photography workshops or classes. They are a lot of fun.

You will be in for a treat with a digital SLR.

I got rid of my first digital because I hated looking through the viewfinder and not seeing what the lens is seeing. It was a pain to try and adjust. I sold it on Ebay.

I now use a Minolta 7Hi which has the feel of an SLR and athrough the lens viewfinder.

Dick, I know what you mean about a through the lens viewfinder. I can't get used to using the LCD screen, especially outside. They are usually not bright enough for me. Are you happy with the Minolta?

Maggi, you'll love the Digital Rebel. Terrific camera. Costco here just started carrying it ($949 for the kit); the good thing about Costco is their extremely liberal return policy, much easier to deal with them if you have a problem with the camera even beyond 30 days.

If you don't know anything about digital SLR cameras, please be aware of one thing: the sensor magnification factor (or "multiplier"). Though the digital rebel accepts EOS lenses you use on your Canon film camera, the Digital Rebel will only "see" a portion of the lens in the middle; it's effectively a 1.6X zoom. Good if you are into telephoto, bad if you want to get really wide (like in many travel photos).

The Digital Rebel kit comes with a (cheap) wide angle lens that uses a new mount. It's 18mm-55mm so it gives you back that wide angle you'd lose with your EOS wide angle lenses.

Still the Rebel takes excellent pictures. Someone obtained one of my pictures from this camera for a big poster and I warned him that it might look a little "pixelated" - but when I got a sample I was stunned at how great it looks! So, if you get a Digital Rebel, you'll be able to blow up those travel photos very very large and have them look great.

Wow, Andrew, thanks. This will probably be my husband and my Christmas present to each other. I love blowing up my photos, we have a gallery downstairs, that's why I wanted the 6 mg. How large was the poster?

I've been very happy with my camera.I really like the feel of the camera....like a 35mm.

It is a 5 megapixel 7x optical zoom.

Unlike some digital cams , my zoom works the same way as a 35mm. I hate those electical zooms where it is a pain to zoom in and out.

I am sure that there are many other cameras that would work just as well.
