Recommendations on Sanibel Is.

We will be going to Sanibel/Captiva in February with our two children (7&8) and my parents. Does anyone have any recommendations for activities and restaurants? Thanks.

Take your family to the Bubble Room restaurant. The atmosphere is great for all ages. It can be expensive so you might want to go for lunch. A search on Bubble Room will give you more details.

The Ding Darling Conservation Area(Preserve?) is a good place to see the flora and fauna of real Florida.

Make sure you visit the shell museum. We sort of put it off until our last full day, thinking that we'd just see cases of shells on display. Wrong! They have a slide presentation that teaches you SO much about the life of the shells! It alsoo spells out the shelling laws on Sanibel. We got LOTS of conflicting advice about this from well-meaning fellow tourists.

If you go to the Bubble Room, do go at lunch time. Not only will it be more expensive in the evening, your wait for a table will be unmerciful. If you hear that you *must* go to the Mucky Duck (very close to the Bubble Room on Captiva), don't wait until nearly sunset before you go! <g> I can tell you, you won't be seeing a seat that evening.

We did like Cheeburger, Cheeburger for a casual lunch. Their kids meals come in a car-shaped box, which looked really cool. They serve burgers in various sizes (The Semi-Serious, the Serious, the Delirious). You get your photo taken if you can eat your way through the one pounder.

We also liked McT's, a family-style restaurant with a big seafood selection. The Hungry Heron has a very large menu, and the leftovers fed us all for lunch the next day as well.

Have a great time, I can't wait to go back!

Yes to the shell museum. World class. Also check out the library, if a rainy day. First class. There is also a local historical "village" near the libary. Enjoy.

Don't know if it's still there, but Bud's Any Fish You Wish was one of the best seafood restaurants we'd ever been to. The food is fresh and the atmosphere is kid-friendly and fun. We ate there three times in one week when we were at Sanibal about 6 years ago.
Have fun!
