recommendations for relaxing weekend in so cal

I'm trying to plan a weekend getaway in So. CA for my husband and me in early March (we live in Houston, TX), as a "last adult weekend" before our first baby arrives in June. So far I've come up with 1) going to Palm Springs for a mineral bath/ spa treatment -- but husband isn't really much into spas; or 2)going to the hale watching festival at Dana Point (Orange Co/Santa Ana) -- but we've already gone whale watching off the coast of Maui.

oops sorry all, accidentally hit post too soon.
I'd love to hear other suggestions for our weekend trip. From what I've seen on this board you all have great advice!!

I'd head for San Diego. The further south you get, the better chance you have for good weather that time of year.

San Diego has lots to see and do - days and nights - so you're biggest problem will be selecting from all the options. For a sampling, just search on San Diego on this forum.

Have a great trips and congratulations on beginning your family.

You didn't say what type of activities you enjoy, but there's more to Palm Springs than the spas. Obviously, if you're golfers it's a great destination, but also if you like to hike -- and the weather right now is great for desert hiking.

thanks, dwooddon & sart29. As to activities, I will be 6 months pregnant so not looking for anything strenuous -- even though I was a college athlete/am in good shape, I don't think hiking would be a good idea. Ideally we like to vacation near water and go snorkeling but it'll probably still be cold in early March (I'm not a fan of cold water, even Hawaii's water in March was too cold for me). San Diego also sounds good, and if we want, we can still go on a whale watching cruise from its coast.

San Diego is your best bet for that time of year, but the Pacific is cold, cold, cold, even down in San Diego. Perhaps a trip to the Laguna Beach area might be nice -- stay at the Surf n Sand, with a big room overlooking the water and a nice swimming pool. The rooms are big and you'll feel pampered.

I wouldn't be going to a spa during pregnancy without my OB's okay. I remember mine saying anything that raises your body temperature (i.e. hot mud baths, hot mineral springs, hot tubs) is NOT good for the growing fetus. Your OB could advise you as to what the best vacation options for you are, as he/she will know you best.
