Recommendations for Moderate Accomodation in Orlando Area
 

Please recommend some moderately priced accomdations in the Orlando Area near WDW, which the Mrs and me can have a little privacy at night from the two teenage kids without going broke. We are planning for our Disney vacation during December 20th through 31st.

The Buena Vista Suites is all suite. There are 2 rooms, a bedroom and living area with sofa bed. Runs about 119 to 129 a night.

The Holiday Inn Family suites in Lake Buena Vista is also minutes away from Disney. They have 2 bedroom suite among others. Rates from 109 and up.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Family Suites several times, and think it's just great! There's a free breakfast buffet every morning (not just bagels and cereal, but usually pancakes or waffles, bacon, etc.). That alone is worth $30 for a family of 4. They have a great pool, and best of all, it's only about 5 minutes to the Disney properties.

Embassy Suites in Lake Buena Vista is also nice ... room comes with full breakfast and there's a nice pool on the property.

We love the Homewood Suites in Kissimmee. It's only about a mile from WDW, and is very nice. Even comes with a pretty nice breakfast.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn, Maingate East. Nice property, clean, free breakfast, shuttle to the park. Go to the Orlando Visitor's Bureau and get the Orlando Magic Card, it offers discounts on tons of non-disney property. http://www.orlandoinfo.com/magicard. Stayed at Lake Buena Vista Suites and also The Country Inn and Suites in Lake Buena Vista. Both were very good deals. Nice rooms and free breakfast. There are many good deals through AAA or some of the Orlando Hotel websites. Try www.orlandoinfo.com.

bp, you realize that is one of the most expensive times of year to go to Disney?

I would go to priceline and bid on two rooms.

We've always liked the Sheraton Lakeside and the Hilton Garden Inn.

Dec 20 to 24 you'll have lots of privacy, that's the slowest time of the year down there. The following week all hell will break lose.

You didn't say what is moderately priced to you, but a quick check of biddingfortravel.com the companion board for priceline.com had:

"Resort WDW - Wyndham Palace $62 8/7-8/11/03" There were other places in LBV going for rates in the mid $20's per night. GoTravel had the best suggestion. There are so many properties in the Disney World area that Priceline is usually the best way to go.

People who "have" to stay at the Dolphine wouldn't like priceline, but I consistently get best rates there. If not comfortable with priceline you may want to give hotwire.com a try.

To get the lowest rates on priceline you will probably have to wait until November to start bidding. You can always reserve a room(s) you can cancel as a backup until you have something from one of the priceline. I would check biddingfortravel.com from time to time to see what others are getting for that time period.

You will get ridiculously low prices before Christmas - then all the holiday break families arrive.

You might like the Radisson Resort Parkway. It's located right off of highway 192 and it's a quick drive to WDW. They tend to have pretty good rates (I paid $59/night in June, 02) and the pool is great too. Of course, that might not matter in Dec.

You should also check out www.mousesavers.com. The website offers great information on WDW and that's how I got the low rate at Radisson. The lady who runs it also has lots of other info on hotels, discounts, etc.
