In La Jolla - definitely get to the Cove - and it's not only safe/shallow/reef protected - but there is also a life guard station there. http://www.lajollabythesea.com/la-jolla-cove

I had an office for years in the Village of La Jolla - and some days - we would grab sandwiches and walk down the steps next to the La Valencia Hotel - to get to the Cove - and enjoy having lunch while watching the swimmers/surfers/divers/snorkelers.

Is the Golden Rollin Belly still in La Jolla?? We went there for lunch quite often in the early 70s.

Is La Jolla Cove still being effected by the bird dropping stench? My Mom (who lives in San Diego) was there last month for breakfast at Brockton Villa (an excellent choice for breakfast with terrific views) and said the smell was pretty bad.

Brockton Villa has the best french toast I have ever eaten.

Sorry - didn't know about the Golden Rollin Belly? Was it in the Village or up the coast a bit in Del Mar? http://www.grouchyoldcripple.com/cgi...?entry_id=5152

As for the bad ordor in the air around the beach/near the Village - it's still there (at least some of the time) - and here is one article from this last week:

Ronine, between Laguna Beach and the Newport Peninsula, I'd pick Laguna for its more upscale feel and greater variety of lodgings and restaurants. Also, the Crystal Pier does have a few motel-style units located near the office on dry land.

Best Grilled Seafood for Lunch, Harbor Grill at Dana Point.
$15-$20 for seafood or pasta, burgers $11-$13.
Dinner at Jack's, Dana Point $15-$27.
Under $10 Breakfast: RJ's Cafe 25001 Dana Point Harbor Dr. smaller portions are available for smaller appetites. Also lunch is offered during typical breakfast hours. Killer omelettes. place is small and busy but wait time not too long w' indoor or outdoor seating. Weekends can be crowded when all the tourists seem to show up at the same time. Dana Point is situated next to historic San Juan Capistrano and Mission San Juan Capistrano.

If have Time, Travel north to Long Beach attractions. Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach Waterfront - Scorpion Submarine , The Queen Mary, Shoreline Village.
