Recent experience with these Atlanta Restaurants?
 

I'm considering the Public House and Pitty Pat's Porch for dinners this weekend. I've been to both but over 20 years ago! Any recent reviews?? Thx

I went to Pitty Pat's about six months ago. It was not great, but it was pretty good. I had venison. I liked the rocking chairs for the wait. It was pretty crowded when I went, and they sat me with someone else (I was alone). Actually that was good because we had a good chat. My impression was that most people seemed to be from out of town (not sure how I know that, but they just looked that way - there was a big teacher's convention nearby at the time). I knew of the place because my wife had been many years ago on a business trip, and I was staying right down the street.

I am guessing you mean the Public House in Roswell. That restaurant has been bought out by J.Christopher's, as breakfast and lunch chain. I don't know if they are continuing to serve dinners, but you may want to look into that before you come.

Darn - I remember them having great food. Any suggestion for a kind of upscale, antebellum type place for a mom and son to try on a Sunday night? I'm not looking for a chain since we live in a large metro area and have plenty of those around. Thx

Anthony's on Piedmont Rd. in Buckhead- antebellum home, average to above average food- lots of out-of-towners and marriage proposers.

Anthony's and Pitty Pat's are both "tourist traps" where few locals dine. The atmosphere is almost everything as the food is just average. Atlanta has many better restaurants but I understand the desire to experience that atmosphere.

Another suggestion is Horseradish Grill in north Buckhead across from Chastain Park on Powers Ferry Rd. The cuisine is "new South". The atmosphere is nice- it's a former home (but it's not as kitchy as the plantation atmosphere of Pitty Pat's).

Horseradish grill sounds like a keeper; I don't want kitsch - you can go to Disney for that. Other ideas??

Where are you staying? Perhaps we could make some other suggestions close to where you are staying.

We really like Canoe in Vinings (canoeatl.com). It sits on the Chattahoochee River and has wonderful atmosphere as well as food. It would be about a 15 minute drive (without traffic) up I75. Enjoy your weekend!

If you do decide on Canoe, ask to be seated in the River Room; you'll have a better outdoor view. If the weekend is nice, they may still have outdoor seating as well.

We went to Pitty Pat's a few months ago and were definitely not impressed. I was expecting a nicer atmosphere; to me, it seemed old and run-down. The food was okay, but not wonderful. It's not our return list.

Again - I really appreciate the input. I'm not looking for romantic atmosphere, high end wines, etc. Just a nice, fun place for a dinner with my son. Horseradish is definitely on the list.

I live down the street from Canoe. I definitely suggest Canoe (I'm the Horseradish Grill reference too). Try to make reservations for Canoe before dark so you can enjoy the river view. I would have suggested it earlier but I was thinking more southern because of the Pitty Pat's inquiry. Canoe and HG are great choices for the weekend. From the Tech area, you are 15 minutes to Canoe and 20 min. to HG (much closer than going to Roswell for the defunct Public House). Have a great weekend!

Public House in Roswell is just a breakfast/brunch/lunch place now--it's ok but certainly not worth going out of your way for...

Horseradish Grill and Canoe are both good suggestions...there's loads of restaurants in Midtown too-- you might want to consider that area for a lunch...or Virginia Highland too...
