Recent Broadway Plays We've Enjoyed

I want to thank everyone who posted reviews of this play here. My parents are in town this week and I advised them to pick this show at the Tkts booth if it was available based on reading a few positive reports.

We picked up orchestra seats (on the side but still a good view). I thought Christine Baranski, who plays the French maid, stole every scene she was in.

I left the theater thinking that I really should attend more plays; I've always just gone when I have family or friends in town.

What are some plays that you've enjoyed lately?

August: Osage County (excellent, but very long)

I've seen a lot this season and enjoyed many. But the best of what I've seen has been (in no particular order):

If coming to NYC, don't forget the best theater option in NY Shakespeare in the Park. Hamlet ends its run on Sunday. Hair begins July 22nd.

Ryan - only if you're prepared to spend the day on line for two tickets. Many tourists can't devote a day to that. It is a great experience though - very special with a view of the castle in the background!

An editor here at work went the other night; his friend was in line at 6:30 am and was able to get two tickets at 1pm. Commitment pays off-- I would like to see Hair so thanks for the heads up. I think I'd have to take the day off...or find a very good friend to endure the wait.

Saw four shows in May.

I LOVED Gypsy and August: Osage County

Lukewarm on In the Heights and
Young Frankenstein.

Looking forward to South Pacific and Billy Elliot in December.

Loved <b>August: Osage County</b> --but most of the cast is leaving post-Tony's, except Amy Morton. <b>South Pacific</b> is amazing - but I doubt one can get tickets for it still. <b>In the Heights</b> is a high energy, vibrant musical, well worth its Tony award.

Also saw, Gypsy (o.k. if you love Patti Lupone), The Country Girl (awful) and Dangerous Liasons (just o.k.)

Steelygirl and her father loved South Pacific last weekend.

Don't forget off Broadway. This trip we've seen some great stuff there, as we'd seen many of the older shows on Broadway. Adding Machine is fascinating. Port Authority has three of the best actors you'll ever see on a stage together in New York. See Reasons to be Pretty off Broadway before it moves to Broadway next year. Three on a Couch is a bizarre, but well done play.

What's more you see these off Broadway shows for half of what you pay for Broadway (discounts on both counted in).

I think November with Nathan Lane was terribly funny with a great cast. It's closing in mid July, so hurry to see it. Lots of good seats at discount.

With our trip drawing to a close, of the 23 plays and musicals we've seen this month in NYC -- one stands way out ahead of all the others -- August: Osage County. I found it mesmerizing and astounding!

I just saw November on Thursday night. Nathan Lane of course was great but I thought the whole cast was very good. We were able to get 9th row center orchestra seats for half price.

My vote goes to Jersey Boys !

Does anyone know if the Ticket Discount Booth is open the week of December 7 at the South Street Seaport?

I usually stand in line forever at the Times Square location.

Is it difficult in December to get to the South Street Seaport booth?

I went to 4 shows the past week: Spamalot, Young Frankenstein, Grease, and Spring Awakening. They are all well done and enjoyable.

For these 4 shows, I got the tickets from the South Street Seaport discount booth. ( Yes, four times! ) The line was not very long, and I used my umbrella for shade under the hot sun.

A quick comment in response to the earlier post about the difficulty in getting tickets to the Shakespeare in the Park productions. My husband and I were in NYC last week and wanted to see the Hair production in Central Park on Thursday (July 24). We wandered over from the Met at about 1 p.m. and stood in a very short line for about 1 minute. We got two tickets - not seated together but that wasn't a problem - and had a wonderful evening. Maybe we were just lucky, but it was easy, wonderful and FREE! Gets no better...
