Reasonably priced hotel in downtown DC
I need to book a hotel room for 2 nights, 3/11 and 3/12 in downtown Washington DC. Most of the rooms are priced at $300.00 and more. Does anyone know of less expensive, like Fairfield Inns or Drury Inns around there, or something like those? Thanks in advance.

There are a number of Courtyards, a Hilton Garden Inn, an a Hampton Inn all in very convenient places. I put your dates in Orbitz and found a number of hotels around $200, which is a great deal at that time of the year.

Are you driving into the city? Staying just outside and hopping the metro to downtown will save you money. Do a fodor's forum search on Arlington, Rosslyn, Alexandria (depending on where you're driving in from) and lots of previous topics on this subject will surface.

I just did a long and intensive 2 week (almost) search for an entire week stay at the end of Feb. I was flabberghasted at the prices. Some are twice as their normal "posted" rack rates.
I found a few that were fabulous but only had availability for a day or two.
Smaller: Tabard Inn or Inn on Dupoint Circle
Larger: The Quincy (used to be Lincoln Suites) Jury's Normandy. Hotwire has some options in the $145 to $199 price range as well. All right in D.C. and in safe close to transport. areas. I could give you more options, if you want them.
I'm staying at the Quincy with a kitchenette set up. I wish I could be at Tabard Inn. I've heard the food and everything is fabulous. But no tv, clock, or hair dryer. Old fashioned, vintage. www.hotwire.com or www.quikbook.com
I got Quincy threw quikbook for a further 15% reduction.

Tabard Inn on N Street NW between 17th and 18th. The Quincy on M Street NW between 18th and 19th. The Lombardy on I Street NW between 20th and 21st. The Red Roof Inn on H Street in Chinatown is a good locale.

It's been a while, but I stayed at the Metro Marriott (a subway station just outside the front door--about twenty steps). The hotel also included a full buffet breakfast at the time, so we ate a hearty breakfast, picked up something cheap (a snack) at lunch, and only bought dinner. It was an inexpensive way to go.
