reasonably priced boston lodging for 1 night in june
 

hi fodors friends!
we will be in boston to see our 1st red sox game in june. we are very excited but we realize that it is high season in new england so finding a hotel has been excruciatingly challenging. i need your help! so far, i have only found hotels in boston that are $250 or more. that is waaaay more than i usually pay for a hotel room. i've found some cheaper places but then we'd have to a share a bathroom which is out of the question. the last option i see is staying in places like bedford, danvers, peabody for a much better price (~$50 - $80) but these towns are about 30 mins drive from boston. after the night game, we don't mind driving 30 mins but it wouldn't be fun if we got lost. also, the next day, we'd like to hit boston and prefer not to have to drive too far and park...unless you think this option is not that bad. any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Check the Best Western Round House. The location is lousy except it's convenient to I93 and offers free parking. The hotel itself is decent. It's a long walk to a T station. The hotel shuttle might take you. After dark I would use cabs. It's a scruffy area but we didn't mind it based on what we were doing.

There's a Howard Johson's within walking distance of Fenway. I've stayed there before. Not great, not bad.

There's a small hotel/motel that I stayed at, that is almost in Fenway Park's shadow. It's just around the corner. Darned if I could remember the name.

BTW: I've bought tickets a head of time and by walking up to the ticket office. Much better seats by walking up. Right behind home plate, 10-15 rows up.

BW Round House may be good for you. There is also a Hampton Inn near the Round House. Also check Midtown Hotel and www.lastminutetravel.com for your date.

It sounds like your search has been thorough. Any chance of a decent rate in Arlington or a reasonable distance from the Riverside T stop in Newton? It takes a while to get into the city from there, but you wouldn't be driving. :)

You also could look south. I know these stations have large parking garages: Braintree at an end of the Red Line; the Quincy Adams T stop also on the Red Line; and the Route-128 commuter rail station in Norwood. A glance at google maps shows a number of hotels and motels in this area that you could cross-reference with TripAdvisor...

Danvers and Peabody seem really far out; Bedford is better but not accessible on the T commuter rail.

$250/n is pretty reasonable in Boston for June. You can look for deals on Travelzoo or try your hand at Hotwire or Priceline.

If you decide to stay outside of the city, just remember that you'll be paying $30 for parking in the city. So, $25-$30 parking fee for the Red Sox game, plus antoher $30-$35 parking fee for sightseeing the next day, you are already adding $60 to your expenses.

We stayed out by the airport once. Hotels were cheap, have free parking, and offer free shuttles to the T station.

I wonder if the hotel Buckminster is the one you are remembering Rastaguy? Its the closest to Fenway and I think pretty reasonably priced.

I did a quick price check on the Hotel Indigo in Newton, and it was $149. That would be a decent choice, since you can walk from there to Riverside station, and ride the green line into Fenway. You could probably find other hotels in the Newton or Waltham area and drive from there to the Riverside T to go into town, and that would be cheaper than driving all the way in and parking. But the Indigo would be the most convenient of these.

You might consider one of the hotels near Alewife station in Cambridge -- the ones I know of are the Cambridge Gateway Inn and the Best Western Plus Tria. They're both within walking distance of Alewife station (Gateway is about 5 mins, Tria about 10-15), which gives you easy access to Fenway and to Boston.

I would expect that either place is less than $250 for most dates.

The Hotel Indigo mentioned by china_cat would be the BEST option for you if you can afford it! You can park the car at the hotel (free, I believe), and just take the Green Line T into the city as well as to the baseball game. Lots of fans park at the Riverside T station to do that, so you'll be in good company heading to/from Fenway Park.

Courtyard by Marriott Brookline/Coolidge Corner advertises as "right across the street from the Green Line".

how about the Hyatt in Cambridge, just across the river or there's a place called John Jeffries House in Beacon Hill, and also the recently renamed the Boston Common Hotel. There's also a B&B before that's called the Gryphon House, which is in one of those beautiful brownstones on the edge of Back Bay and Kenmore area.

and the lowest price is around $33 per night at Abercrombie's Farrington Inn Hotel. They are alright if you just want a quick sleep and all. :)

For a reasonable and convenient hotel, try The Harborside Inn, it is right across the street from Quincy Market, so lots of choices for restaurants. It is also right on top of the blue line T for easy public transit to FENWAY. Or you can walk over to Government Center and catch the T there. Have a great time in Boston.
