Reasonable Vail Hotel

I am sure this has been beat to death, but I wanted to see what is current. We are planning to stay in Vail Feb 13-18. Is seems the minimum rate for hotels is around $400 for 2 adults 2 children. I was hoping for something a little less expensive, maybe around $200. Also tips on cheap lift tickets would be great. Yes I know I could go somewhere else, but we are meeting friends. Other than stizmark what other ideas are out there. Want walking distance to vail village, lionshead would be great, don't mind walking. Any rent by owner, condos or other hotels. Would like heated pool if possible. I know this is a tall order, but that is why I am writing this. Hope they get lots of snow! Thanks in advance.

I know you do not want to hear about the Sitzmark; but I have been staying there for years. Its as nice as any Marriott I have stayed in. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, the breakfasts are fine; you are walking distance to everything. The ouside hot tub - there was hardly anyone in it. You are 2 doors down from Sweet Basil- walking distance to the lift; there is parking underneath. I also recently looked at rates on expedia and you can get a better rate there than by calling the hotel. Its a family run and owned hotel. The owners live upstairs; they usually host a wine reception weekly for their guests; who return year after year. If you are looking at other places you are going to find them running over 4-500 a nite; and those are the less expensive ones. I have also lived in Vail; and other long time friends who have lived there as well; always would reccomend the Sitzmark to out of town guests when they did not have room. The other place you might be able to get a deal at is the Cascade Club- I still prefer the Sitzmark. You might also want to check out VRBO.com.

The Vail Racquet Club is in East Vail and not within walking distance of Vail Village. The same is true of the Cascade Club although less of a walk than from East Vail, it's still a good distance west of Lionshead. It's difficult to find that kind of price in the summer much less during ski season. You may have to scale back on your requirements. I wish I could give you better news.

I just had an idea. You might try the Evergreen...good location etc. Also the Hotel Gasthof Gramshammer. It is a Vail institution. The restaurant has gone downhill in the last years but still fairly popular and they do have reasonable room rates (for Vail) if I remember correctly. There is always the Holiday Inn, but it would be a bit of a walk...too far to the main village IMO. The shuttle/bus does offer access to Vail Village.

TRY VAILONSALE.COM--- often times you can find good rates for rooms/ condos in the area that are on sale- sometimes only 1-2 weeks before you want to go; but if your nerves can handle it that might a way to go as well. Often times I have travled to Vail with out a reservation and I just start calling places when I arrive to see where I can get the best "walk-in" rate- that has worked well at the Cascade Club. They do have a lift there but its way on the other side from the Main part of the mountain. Many years ago I stayed at the Vail Spa- they have condo's there; I am pretty sure a hot tub. (its not a spa; its just the name of the condo complex). Very close to Lions head.
